"Is that what you really want? You want to be Joey Bishop?"

I adore references to things I love and this one had my mom and me cracking up! Thank you Psych!

PS: I read some of the comments on the video and people had no idea who this was in reference too... hopefully you've been reading my blog enough to know, but just in case it's the Rat Pack. Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. and Joey Bishop. Below they are pictured with another member of the Rat Pack, Peter Lawford.

It was a good Nalgene....

So today I opened the freezer to pull out my Nalgene (that I've had for at least 10 years) and this is what I found:

Now before you say I filled it too full of water, let me tell you that you are wrong. There was an inch of clearance from the ice to top of the bottle.

In my Googling I found out that Nalgene will replace the bottle and also that I might get a t-shirt that says "I broke my Nalgene." Let's be honest, I want them to replace my bottle, but I really want the t-shirt.

So I sent Nalgene customer service an email to ask if such things happened. They ignored my t-shirt reference (rude), but did say that they would replace my bottle if I'd just send them a low resolution photo of my bottle with the logo clearly visible. I just sent that email. Can't wait to see what comes in the mail!

PS Thank you

90s stretch pants comin' at ya!

Remember wearing stretch pants like these in elementary school (ours were a little cooler, I mean we had the loops to go under out feet)? Well according to Kohls and Lauren Conrad they are back in style!

The good news is that you needn't be ashamed of your embarrassing clothes from back then. The bad news is that just because something is "in style" that doesn't mean not embarrassing.

Sadly, I did not buy these fantastically ugly leggings. I believe stretch pants from the 90s are better left in the 90s.

Thrifting Treasures

I had super great success on Friday! Here is what I found:

The Best of The Dean Martin Variety Show

I've been wanting a red plaid shirt for a while! This one came from the men's part of the store.

This is a nice wool jacket. Isn't it perfect?

Fusia lace shirt. It fits me really well!

This is my favorite item! Isn't it the cutest suit ever? I can't wait to wear it.

"Fine Gifts"

As I think of my impending graduation from Brigham Young University-Idaho there are a few things I get to do. One is to consider buying some useless BYU-I memorabilia. As I was looking at my options today I came upon the Fine Gifts section. You can imagine my excitement. As I viewed the three full pages of "fine gifts" I realized I had never truly known what a fine gift was until today.

Let me enlighten you.
BYUI Collegiate Bling Circle Ring - $9.99

I like this one because it's super trendy. I can't think of one outfit that this wouldn't go with.

BYU-Idaho Candy Jar - $10.99

So that when those candy stealing kids take your candy, they will be inspired to get an education at BYU-I. Also it will match your BYU-I themed kitchen.

BYU-Idaho Golf Towel - $19.99

This will match your BYU-I Golf Ball and the decal on the side of your golf cart.

BYU-Idaho Large Foam Basketball 6-Inch - $9.99

Because nothing says "fine" like a foam.

BYU-Idaho Yo-Yo - $2.99

I already knew that Yo-Yos were considered fine. That's why I wanted one so bad in 6th grade when the Yo-Yo guy came to school and did an assembly. Although I think mine is fancier than this one. I think it was worth more than $2.99 and I definitely paid more (or my parents did, I can't remember). Also as I speak my Yo-Yo is not a foot away from me.

There are other notable items such as a dinner bell (for when you get a butler) and a thimble that looks like more trouble than it's worth.

I hope this helps clear up any confusion regarding "fine gifts."

Now I just have to decide which one I want!

A Comfy, Crocheted Eternity Scarf

A couple weeks ago I decided I wanted a new scarf; a comfy, crocheted eternity scarf. I finally bought some yarn and made the scarf in about 3 days (a few hours if I didn't have things like school and work to attend to).

By the way, I made up the pattern myself (it was quite easy). I think I did a pretty good job! What you do you think?

A beautiful white cream sweater!

Yesterday I went shopping with some of my best friends. We were hitting a DownEast Basic warehouse sale. The first one they've done in Rexburg. Most everything was in boxes that you had to dig through to find your treasures. I found an white cream colored sweater in one of the boxes that I knew I had to have. There was only one problem; black stains on the sweater. They weren't very big, but black stains on a white sweater? Usually I just put it back and leave it for someone else to tackle. But it was the only one. Not the only one in my size or in that color, the only one. So I tried it on and of course it was exactly what I wanted. So I bought it.

When I got home I got right to work on tackling the stains. I asked advice from my mom, googled and used my own knowledge to decide what to do.

At first I soaked it in the sink in ice cold water for a bit. Nothing changed.

Then I put some Dawn dish soap on the stains, rubbed it in and put it back in the water. I repeated this each time that the blue dish soap disappeared from the sweater.

Victory! The black stains were fading! I soaked the sweater overnight. Put more soap on it when I woke up and left it to soak while I went to my internship. More soap.

Although the stains aren't completely gone, they are so faint that I can't be disappointed.

Looks good right?
You can still see the stains faintly, but I think it's still ready to wear!

So, my advice for you today is to use Dawn dishsoap for stain removal. I usually just pre-treat the stains with it. You can even put it on the garment, and toss it into your laundry.

My only caution for you is not to put Dawn dish sop on silk. That is the only trouble I've had. I put it on my yellow silk blouse and tossed the blouse in my laundry basket. The stains came out, but the Dawn did not. I can only assume that the Dawn would have been fine had it never dried on the shirt, but I can't be sure. So be careful if you have silk clothing.

Using Dawn to get stains out makes a lot of sense if you give it a thought. I mean they use Dawn to clean little creatures up after an oil spill. What could be safer and for effective than that?

Give it a try. I'm pretty sure it's cheaper than other stain removals and you probably already have it in your house. Since I share dish soap with roommates, I buy a bottle of Dawn just for doing laundry. It sits right next to my laundry basket.

Do you have any stain removing tricks you swear by?

Making Men's Wool Socks Fit Your Girl Feet

So I bought some wool socks, they were really cheap, about $5.50 a pair once I paid shipping.

Once they arrived I realized they were men's socks. About 2 inches too big for me. Since they were so cheap I really wanted to keep them, plus I need them. I wear wool socks everyday and only have two pairs. A pair for everyday would be wonderful!

I talked to my mom and decided that I could cut the toe off and move it up. I ended up cutting them just below the heel, mostly because it just made more sense to me.

I have been wearing one of the pairs for a few hours and it looks like I'll need to sew them up another time, the wool doesn't like to stay together with just a little stitch.

Here are some pictures to show you what I did:

Cut the sock
Put ride sides together and line up any distinct colors (If you don't it'll look a little wonky).
Sew it up (I did it by hand) and turn it inside out.
Trim off the excess (careful not to cut into what you've sewn, I did that a couple times).
You have a sock that fits you! (See how it looks wonky? I lined the rest of them up.)
Here is a original sock next to one I fixed. Success!

Yay! Warm socks that fit!

Now I have 4 new pairs of socks. Happy Pam!

Alpine Spiced Cider

It smells like camping, it tastes like camping... but I'm not camping.

Alpine Spiced Cider via Amazon.com

I love Alpine Spiced Cider. Mostly because it is the kind of cider we take with us camping every year.

The first time I bought cider on campus I was happy to discover that their cider is Alpine Spiced Cider.

Every time I purchase cider on campus it is delightful. Every time I take a sip I can pretend I'm in the middle of the Montana wilderness with my family, where the only concern there is when and where we will hike next and who is cooking dinner and what they are making.

Thank you Alpine for giving me an awesome (and cheap) escape!

Old Man Moon...

I love the moon. I really do. Sometimes I talk to him. He's the first thing I look for when I am outside. I love it when I see him during the daytime - bonus time with the moon is always great.

The Hunter's Moon via nightskyinfo.com

Often when I see the moon I start humming the tunes to Hoagy Carmichael's Old Man Moon. I only know it from the movie Topper and I can never quite get the words to I just hum along and then sing "Ooooold maan moon...." Here is the song as featured in Topper. The part that I always think of is at the end of this video when Cary Grant and Constance Bennett sing it. An interesting fact: Hoagy is playing the piano! Great cameo.

I think the moon is at it's best when it's surrounded by misty, drifting fog or clouds. It's so eery and romantic.

Moon Clouds Blue/Green via pbase.com

Camping is the best time to see the moon because you're lucky enough to get to sleep by the light of it. There are no street lamps or car lights fouling things up.

As a bonus (mostly for me) here is a clip from Disney's The Kid, One of my favorite Disney movies. They talk about the moon a few times in it and here is one of those scenes.

When do you like the moon best? Or do you like the moon at all?
